Oh thank goodness. It’s another Friday, and that means it’s time for the weekend. Some areas of the country will be having a nice weekend, and others will be wishing it was Monday already.

national forecast

Looking at the national forecast, we see a low pressure system over the Dakotas. Which will bring cold temperatures and snow to Montana, Colorado, as well as North and South Dakota. High pressure over the Reno area will keep the Southwest dry for a while. The rest of the US should stay pretty dry except for some possible lake effect snow in the Great Lakes region.

The low will make its way into Iowa and Illinois by Sunday. The cold front dangling off to the west will dig south all the way into northern Mexico bringing that cold arctic air behind it, and maybe a little precipitation.

Taking a closer look at the Tucson area, that cold front may be playing havoc with our weekend. It’s expected to bring us colder than normal temperatures and possibly some more rain. Anyone remember last year when we didn’t have any rain for about six months? Even with all the days of precipitation we’ve had this winter, we’re still below average in the rainfall department. I say “bring on the rain, as long as it’s on a weekday.”

Conditions right now: 62 degrees with some clouds overhead. The humidity is 23 %, wind out of the northwest at a light 5 miles per hour. Barometric pressure holding steady at 30.17 inches of mercury. The record high for today was set in 1994 with a temperature of 85 degrees, and the record low was 21 back in 1910. Brrrr. We reached a high today of 70, just barely higher than the average of 68. The overnight low was 39, a couple degrees below the average.

Turning to the 3 day forecast, tomorrow should have a high near 75 degrees with no clouds in the sky. It’ll be a beautiful day to get outside and work in the garden, go hiking, or watch a little league baseball game. Sunday will be a little cooler due to that darn cold front moving in, and it’ll bring some clouds too. High just about 70 degrees with a small chance of precipitation. And Monday is looking like the worst of the three days. The cold front has arrived. Highs in the upper 60s, and a fairly good chance you’ll see some of the wet stuff. Expect the winds to pick up Sunday night into Monday too. The good news I guess is that I’ll be at work. If you get off for President’s Day on Monday, you might want to plan some indoor activities.
